From Inclusion to Equity
Public x Design, our annual convening on public life, kicks off tonight in Detroit! We will be joined by hundreds of practitioners, researchers, and public space advocates to collectively explore how inclusive processes and approaches to public life—the everyday social life of parks, plazas, sidewalks, and other spaces between buildings—can create equitable, healthier, more vibrant cities.
Over the next three days, participants will benefit from a series of workshops, tours, and conversations sharing a variety of approaches to planning, designing, and sustaining genuinely inclusive public spaces. Keynotes will be delivered by Majora Carter, winner of the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and a Peabody Award, and Abdul El-Sayed, former Health Commissioner of Detroit. During the site visits, participants will tour public spaces across Detroit, and meet with the city and community leaders who are shaping them.
